A while back I visited Gade View Gardens the social housing designed by Erno Goldfinger for (what was then) the Watford Rural District Council. Now within the remit of the Three Rivers coucil the place has been left to decay and is now earmarked for demolition. Talks are underway with developers, so it might not be too long before we see the end of this place.
It's a crying shame as it was the first 'real' social housing project that he worked on (The flats in Regents Park Road being, imho, more private that social) and are a precursor for both Balfron and Trellick Towers. Not only that - but the fact the are so few of his buildings it seems criminal that they have let this get into this state.
I've been researching this property quite a bit and finding out titbits from the 3 rivers website and it does seem that they are painfully aware of the mistakes here....
The place is slowly getting worse and worse, there's a lot more vandalism since the last time I came and that can only carry on - so I want to try and make it back regularly to check it out ....
